About Us

The Samson Society was born out of a simple yet radical idea: men need other men. Not just as acquaintances or work buddies, but as true brothers—friends who walk alongside each other through the struggles, failures, and victories of life.

Our founder, Nate Larkin, knows this firsthand. For years, he lived a double life—serving as a pastor while secretly battling addiction and shame. Like many men, he thought willpower and secrecy would be enough to fix things. But isolation only made things worse. It wasn’t until he hit rock bottom and risked honesty with a group of trustworthy men that he found true freedom.

That experience sparked a vision: what if there was a space where men could be real with each other, free from judgment, and commit to walking together in integrity? In 2004, the first Samson Society meeting was held, and what started as a small gathering of men soon grew into a movement.

Today, the Samson Society is a global community of men—meeting in homes, churches, coffee shops, and online—choosing authenticity over image, connection over isolation,

and progress over perfection. We are a fellowship of brothers, bound by a common commitment: to live with honesty, to reject passivity, and to pursue true freedom together.

No matter where you are in your journey, you are not alone. If you’re reading this, chances are you’re looking for something more—something real. Maybe you're tired of hiding. Maybe you're carrying secrets, shame, or sorrow that feel too heavy to shoulder alone. We get it. We’ve been there.

Whether you feel like you’re barely holding it together or just sick of surface-level connection, we’re glad you’re here. We call ourselves pirate monks—a band of brothers who’ve decided to sail against the current of isolation, pretending, and lone-wolf Christianity.

This isn’t group therapy. This isn’t a 12-step meeting. This isn’t church. And it’s definitely not a place for posturing. You don’t have to clean up before you show up. We’re not here to fix you. We’re here to walk beside you. This is the Samson Society.

Why Samson Society?

We chose Samson, not because he’s a perfect hero, but because he’s a flawed man—strong in public, weak in private. His story is ours: powerful on the outside, haunted within. He had a calling, but his secrets undid him. Sound familiar?

We’re men who want to live in the light—not just managing sin, but learning to walk in authentic brotherhood, radical honesty, and grace-fueled growth. Like Samson, we’ve all had our falls. But unlike Samson, we don’t want to die alone. We want to finish well—together.

What is a Pirate Monk?

The pirate monk is a paradox: part wild man, part monk. He prays and he fights, and he refuses to pretend. A pirate monk embraces his need for God and for brothers. He stops hiding. He rejects religious performance and masculine posturing. He’s done with the mask.

A pirate monk doesn't have all the answers, but he’s learning to live with open hands, an open heart, and open ears. We embrace our weakness, own our story, and live like we mean it. Not to earn love, but because we already have it—and we’re learning to believe that together.

We Are Not Trying to Fix Each Other

We don’t fix each other. We don’t shame or diagnose.

We don’t play church or compete for spiritual gold stars.

We’re here for one another—not as saviors, but as fellow strugglers who have found that grace really is sufficient.

Authenticity Over Appearance
We reject the pressure to perform or pretend. Instead, we embrace honesty about our struggles, doubts, and failures, knowing that real change begins with truth.

Brotherhood Over Isolation
We were never meant to walk alone. True healing happens when men stand shoulder to shoulder, offering support, encouragement, and accountability in a spirit of grace.

Our Values

Grace Over Guilt
We believe in a God who meets us in our brokenness, not in our perfection. Shame and self-condemnation keep us stuck, but grace propels us forward.

Progress Over Perfection
We don’t expect instant transformation. Instead, we commit to the long, faithful journey of becoming healthier men—one step at a time.

Freedom Over Bondage
Whatever holds us back—addiction, fear, anger, or the wounds of our past—does not have the final say. Together, we pursue the freedom that comes from living in truth and community.

At Samson Society, you don’t have to have it all together—you just have to show up. Welcome to a brotherhood where you can be fully known and fully loved.

Purpose Over Passivity
We refuse to sit on the sidelines of our own lives. As men of integrity, we take responsibility for our choices, relationships, and the legacy we leave behind.

A Safe Place to Be Known.
